Welcome to the Kazakhstan Adoptive Families web site! I am Terri Gaines, mother to two boys adopted from Ust-Kamenogorsk in the spring of 2006. I have recently taken over ownership of the site in an effort to preserve the valuable information found here.
The depth, breadth and accuracy of the wonderful information on this site is due to the long term efforts of the site founder, Susan. She has diligently researched, curated and updated the content on this site for over 17 years: "I adopted my infant daughter from Kazakhstan in the spring of 1999. While I was waiting to travel to pick her up, I spent my time doing research on the Internet on the country of her birth. I was amazed at the amount of information available. Since then, as people on various e-mail lists asked questions, I found myself going back to these resources for answers. I decided to compile all of the sites that I have found into one place; I figured it would significantly decrease the size of my bookmark folder as well as serve as a FAQ on adoption. While this site is designed for all families who want to adopt or who have adopted from Kazakhstan, there is information for anyone wanting to learn more about the country, culture and language."
Within this site you will find information about Kazakhstan and lots of links to other websites "" that have information. The Kazakh language section is unique for the Internet; it contains the largest list of words/phrases and names available online. You will also find information related to international adoption from Kazakhstan: the process, the trip, and what happens once you are home. While some of the information is specific for those living in the US, I have tried to include information for other countries as well; the Kazakhstan requirements are the same. The Travel section is geared toward adoption travel, although it applies to anyone going to Kazakhstan and/or traveling with children. Any profits from the bookstore and affiliates will help maintain this site and any excess will be donated to the orphanages and hospitals in Kazakhstan; even if you are purchasing items other than those listed on my site, I will get credit for the sale if you link through my site.
If you have any suggestions or comments, please e-mail me . I welcome any additional web sites that you have found and would like to correct any problems as soon as possible. Travel and adoption situations change rapidly and frequently, so help me to keep this web site up to date. Also, let me know if there is a topic that you would like to see covered. When I see topics come up on the various e-mail lists I will add a summary of the discussion as appropriate. Please note that I am NOT an adoption agency and can not arrange an adoption for you, I am NOT a travel agency and can't arrange air travel or visas, and I am NOT interested in sharing links with timeshare websites or anything not directly related to my website; please don't waste my time and yours by e-mailing me with these types of requests. I also don't want anyone to redesign my site, and I won't sell your items.
